We came with a group, and everyone celebrating received a lovely treat in their room/fridge, which was a delightful way to start the trip. The room was lovely, and since we were celebrating our wedding anniversary, the bed had 2 towel swans with rose petals strewn about them.
no hot water first two days multiple fire alarms

I always have excellent stays at Fairmont as well as the Pallisar property. This time the experience from a personell, dining, and amenities perspective was great again. I did have a problem though with the temperature in the room. There was no air conditioning available, and despite the thermostat being turned down to 18 degrees, the temperature soared up to 26. Just after midnight I texted the front desk to ask if something could be done or we could be moved to another room, but we didn't get a response til after 7:00 am the next morning. Opening up both windows provided minimal relief and subjected us to the sounds of the trains through the night. Suffice to say it was a poor sleep and night. I did advise the front desk of this including the need to address the thermostat issue. I didn't receive an apology as I might have expected. This won't change my desire to continue staying with Fairmont. I hope this creates some awareness of the issue experienced in room 818.
What I will write will seem trite, but I am a Diamond member and well....can stay anywhere I want so I have to consider that in this context. The hotel feels tired...but I can't imagine a major upgrade would make economic sense for the Faimont folks...so management does what they can with the maintenance budget. From the flags being dirty and frayed, to the laminates and paints in common areas tired...the A/C in the rooms wouldn't maintain temperature....washrooms - well....tired. Acoustics and water hammer from plumbing wreaks of a building that is 100 years old. When you call the front desk, you ALWAYS are set to a message that they are busy "serving other guests"....ALWAYS. With that written, - everything was clean and our room was a good size and comfortable and very well priced.
I have stayed at this location couple of times, and various other Fairmont locations across the country over the year, and the experience has always been amazing. We were celebrating 65th birthday, which I informed the hotel before hand. An old towel shaped into a toilet paper, with a red bow and happy birthday sign on top was left in the room. How rude and disrespectful. Usually a piece of cake is offered. brought it up to the managers attention immediately, and she didn’t do anything about it. Next time I’m in Calgary I will stay at Le Germain. Exceptionally disappointing! The service of this location has gone down, it needs new management.
I booked for 2 night stay at Fairmont Palliser in Calgary on August long weekend. I arrived on Saturday about 2 pm. I had called the hotel 2 days prior to confirm my registration, to request my preferred room, and ask for early check-in at 1 pm. When I arrived at the hotel about 2 pm on Saturday, I was greeted by the longest line-up for check-in that I have ever seen, there was only 1 person at reception, and it took at least 15 min to reach reception desk. Then reception told me my room was not ready for early check-in, and they told me that the person on the phone shouldn't have guaranteed me an early check-in. I wish they would bring back $100 option to guarantee early check-in! My room wasn't available until 3:30pm. When I checked out of the hotel early on Sunday morning, reception told me they would email me my invoice or bill, and when I arrived home 2.5 hrs later, the bill still had not arrived. I phoned the hotel and someone told me they would email me my bill, which they did, but it was incorrect with valet charges missing. I then had to phone a second time and a different person was very helpful, added the valet charges, and emailed me the correct bill. I have stayed at Palliser on the August long-weekend for past 2 yr, and I would not stay at this hotel again at this time, as it is usually fully-booked with multiple weddings, and service seems to be stretched to the limit. I might consider staying on the Gold Floor on the August long weekend to avoid long line-ups to check-in, and to utilize the peace-and-quiet of Gold Floor lounge. On a positive note, my room was very nice, the valet people courteous and professional, the manager apologized for long check-in times on Saturday, and I had a very good server (Julie) in the restaurant for breakfast.
The hotel and the room were very nice. We had trouble figuring out the thermostat.
Great rooms, superb food, had a great time

Mostly it was wonderful! The smoke alarm at 6:30 am was a little disturbing as it took us a few moments to know what was happening. We made it down a few flights of stairs before the false alarm announcement. It was not a good experience for my daughter who is 6 months pregnant.
