We stayed at the Fairmont for 5 nights. The staff was attentive, the hotel was clean and well maintained. Loved the coffee shop and stores on premises. And the area was just beautiful
It was a hotel that I reserved in a hurry, but the person in charge is MADALYN D. JUNIO the Director of Reserves was so kind and quick to respond that I was able to stay in a good hotel. I couldn't say hello directly to him, but I'd like to take this opportunity to say thank you very much. If I have a chance to go to San Francisco next time, I will definitely visit.
About 40 of our family went to San Francisco for a family wedding. Most of us stayed at the Fairmont. We had a chocolate and wine reception in a somewhat private section of the rose garden. We were well taken care of!
We very much enjoyed being on the Bay side.
Dear Mr. Markus Treppenhauer, My name is Araya C.. I’m a resident of San Francisco. I hope giving one star will bring you and management attention. On 8/2 late night or 8/3 early morning. I checked in at Fairmont hotel at 3.30 am on 8/2 night /8/3 early morning. For my understanding, I believe the hotel will consider 8/2 and 8/3 at 11am for check out. I asked a lady for one night and also asked her for a check out time. She said my check out time was 8/4 at 11am. I was surprised she said that because I thought for me checking in at that time would consider to be for 8/2, so check out time would be on 8/3 at 11am. However, I didn’t question anything after, I thought she was kind to check me in for 8/3 and check out on 8/4. So I stayed until 8/4. A few days later, I saw my charge on credit card. I requested for billing. I saw a charge for two nights. So I called a hotel on 8/9 in the afternoon. I asked to speak to a billing department. A front desk transferred me to a billing department. A lady name Navel or Novel. I’m not sure if I hear her name right. I explained to her about situation. Before I tried to finish my sentences. She cut me out most of the time. When I tried to explain about what happened that night. She said she only heard me say this, say that. She also said “but you were in the room, you stayed there right?” I said yes, because the front desk that day told me check out time is 8/4. She kept saying no refund. I ended up hang up a phone because her tone and her reply are just very unprofessional. I called a hotel again, asking for a shift manager/ hotel manager. A front transferred me to the same lady that claimed she worked at billing department. I told her money is not a big deal. I feel like I was take advantage by giving fault information. I asked her where I can file a complain. She said I can’t. She doesn’t know where. I told her I want to complain to that front desk for giving me a wrong info. She said she will. I knew that conversation was not going to go far. That’s when I have to speak with someone who knows how to deal business with clients especially working at an upscale hotel. My questions are Why would a front desk told me my check out time is 8/4 for one night. If I stay for one night, and a check out time is 8/3 (which a front desk informed me different thing), why would no one come to knock at the door or call to my room. Is a person that works in billing department the same as shift manager? Instead of a lady (Noval or something) keep pushing this as it’s my fault, why didn’t she try to talk to a front desk that night. While I tried to explain to her, she kept saying it was only me saying. That is true because I was on the phone with her. To handle this professionally, shouldn’t she tell me that she would investigate this? Not just shut me down like that. I felt like she insulted me and handled this very unprofessionally. I can’t believe that an upscale hotel like you would treat paid-customers like this. I’m very very disappointed. I work just a few blocks away from Fairmont hotel and work in hospitality industry. I wouldn’t expect anyone to experience the same situation like me. Look forward to hearing from you soon. Best Regards, Araya C.
Our windows were blocked by the masonry so it felt gloomy and prison-y. Breakfast room service was late and missing things (items were later taken off bill). Front door needs a handicap button to open more easily for strollers. Property was beautiful and everyone on staff was excellent.
Older building that is well maintained. Amenities are very nice.

The hotel introduces you to a beautiful lobby. It has a lot of interesting history, a beautiful garden/park, and the fun Tonga Room. The room however are old and not as clean as expected. The bathroom and sinks are tiny, carpets had stains, and the rooms finishes were worn and coming off. You’ll also have to pay for every single thing imaginable (e.g. mini bar, snacks, expensive understaffed valet)
You can't beat the location of the Fairmont at the top of Nob's Hill. It's a stately place and the staff are very friendly. But I can't help but feel that it has declined over the years. We noticed a lack of staff in the restaurant (especially the kitchen it seems given the wait time for breakfast) and poor staffing and supplies in the cafe (tables not cleaned and no inventory by 10:30 am). These are small things but when you are paying top dollar you wouldn't expect to see any such issues. It's like a microcosm of what is happening in San Francisco itself (ie, the rise in crime and homelessness, and the hollowing out of the downtown core which has taken the shine off the rose of this beautiful city).
During a long trip across the country a previous reservation was disastrous so we called the Fairmont San Francisco, and we’re meant by gracious reservation hosts, excellent bellboys and and Valets. As expected with the Fairmont hotel, the staff were incredible the room was immaculate, beautifully kept, and well stocked We were wined and dined and had an excellent stay cannot wait to return and stay for a whole weekend.
