Old run down old hotel with very small smelly rooms with extremely small beds. Completely overpriced. Food thumbs down.
Hi Fairmont, I usually love your hotels, and I think the Fairmont Miramar staff did the best they possibly could under the circumstances of the strike. BUT. We paid too much to be woken up at 6:30 a.m. every day by the loud striking, and it was a bummer to know the Westin had come to a deal with their staff and we could have stayed there instead. On the plus side - the pool and restaurant staff were excellent.
To be honest disappointing. We arrived very late Thursday night - Fri morn. Was surprised at the overall low quality of the room. Woken up at 6:30am every morning by the strikes and noise. Asked for a late check out by two hours to accommodate flight to be abruptly told no ! Some staff were very polite and apologetic and did have a minimal reduction to bill on request but for the cost I was not impressed overall I’m afraid.
Our stay coincided with industrial action by striking workers. Venues were closed, services were limited and there was constant noise from the strikers which blighted our stay

The hotel is beautiful and location is amazing! I've stayed at Fairmont Hotels in the US and abroad and always have a wonderful experience. However, this particular stay was not very pleasant due to circumstances that were not communicated prior to our stay. The folks that were on strike started their rally's before 7AM daily. We were placed in the wrong room upon check-in (they said rooms were sold out - I booked ours a couple months in advance) and asked to move the following day, to which they said we could when the room was ready. We went to the Taylor Swift concert and were told our luggage would be moved to the new room upon our return. Our return to the hotel was nearly 1AM and we check at the front desk and they had not moved us to the room. We remained in the wrong room for the entire stay. At the end of the stay, I had three rounds of negotiations w/ front desk staff to get to a point that we felt was acceptable compensation and settled out the final bill. I realize some of the circumstances were out of staff control but just wish I was notified prior to staying for three nights.

The protestors kept me from relaxing all morning.
We had a late check in. The toilet was running the whole time. We asked to get it fixed and the mechanic stepped on my girlfriend’s dress that was on the floor. Toilet was never fixed. The sound of the maid strike in the morning was awful to wake up to both mornings. My girlfriend has PTSD from the Douglas school shooting and alarms sounds give her flashbacks. When I told Arianna this she said she would talk to her manager but nothing was done. The fairmont should be embarrassed with how they handled everything and I feel like I was ripped off.
My family had an Ok experience at the Fairmont Miramar in Santa Monica. The location of the hotel is great. It's not right on the beach but it's walkable to the beach. It's one of the nicest properties along the coast. The restaurant services and food were excellent. However, the hotel itself provides you with a bare minimum in terms of the service. It did not give us an experience of being cared for or welcomed. This was in contrast to other Fairmont properties we stayed in the past. As a family we stay three to four times a year in various Fairmont properties in North America. I was a bit disappointed at the level of service in Miramar. As an example, there was only one working elevator in the building we stayed in. This caused inconvenience for our family as we have a one-year-old with a stroller. Lack of acknowledgement and communication about the elevator was a problem. Pool services was lacking staff, making it difficult to order food and drinks. A strike outside the hotel at 6.30 am wasn't acknowledged by the staff at all. There was uncertainty about the use of a $50 credit on the final bill. I just didn't have strength to investigate this with the staff. Overall, it's a beautiful property with great restaurant service and excellent food but in terms of lodging and service it's just Ok.
Great location in Santa Monica. Excellent customer service, but the hotel is now feeling it's age. The pool area is small for the number of guests, the rooms small and the costs are super expensive. The main entrance was inaccessible for part of our trip as it was booked for a private function, while we were woken at 6.30am due to a staff employment protest where they were banging drums and ringing bells - the hotel made no comment to guests or even offered any apology or recompense such as a free drink or meal voucher.
I work in the industry and have a profound respect for those that are trying their best. I was appalled by the lack of candor and kindness from all staff during our stay. We were part of a wedding and was shocked at how they were treated as well as their guests for the amount of money we were spending. The room was old and needed massive renovations on top of it. I could have stayed at a regular Marriott for better. Nothing seemed to work, there were no gestures to make things better. It was simply awful and I wish I had used Amex when booking this in order to get money back.
